Frequently asked questions

What is an engine lathe like the Gurutzpe Super-M used for?

A conventional engine lathe is used for turning, facing, drilling, boring and threading parts of revolution held in the chuck or between centres. It is the basic machine of any maintenance or general machining shop for making and repairing shafts, bushings, flanges and one-off parts without any need for programming.

What technical data do we have for this unit?

Our data sheet only lists the model, Super-M 350x1000, and the photo shows a three-jaw chuck and a square toolpost turret. If you need to know the swing, distance between centres, power or speed range, ask us and we will measure them on the machine at our premises in Monforte del Cid.

What is the difference between a conventional engine lathe and a CNC lathe?

On a conventional engine lathe the operator moves the carriages with handwheels and levers, which is quick to set up for one-off parts and repairs. On a CNC lathe the movements are executed by the control according to a program, which is more productive in repetitive runs but involves longer programming and set-up time.
