Description and equipment

Hidragroup 50 t die spotting press

Hydraulic press for the adjustment and touching-up of moulds, known in the workshop as a die spotting or inking press. It allows the two halves of a mould or die to be closed under controlled pressure to check the contact between surfaces and adjust closures and parting lines before taking the tool to the injection machine or production press.

Main features

Its key element is the removable lower platen: the lower half of the mould slides out of the pressing zone so that the fitter can work on it comfortably and then moves back in for a new closing. The daylight between platens, from 400 to 1,200 mm, allows moulds of considerable height to be worked with a force of 50 t. The photos show perimeter mesh guards and a separate control cabinet with push buttons.

Configuration of this unit

  • Force: 50 t
  • Minimum / maximum daylight between platens: 400 / 1,200 mm
  • Removable lower platen: yes
  • Perimeter mesh guards (photos 1 and 2)
  • Separate control cabinet with push buttons (photos 2 and 3)
  • Weight: 6,500 kg

Typical applications

Mould shops for plastic injection, blow moulding or die casting, die-making shops and tooling maintenance departments: checking closures, adjusting parting lines and verifying slides.

Frequently asked questions

What is a die spotting press used for?

It is used to close the two halves of a mould or die away from the production machine and check how they seat. With contact paint, the points that touch and those that do not are located, and closures, parting lines and slides are adjusted. This reduces trials on the injection machine and shortens mould set-up time.

What mould height does this press accept?

The daylight between platens on this unit varies between 400 and 1,200 mm, so it takes closed moulds whose total height is within that range. The available force is 50 t. The useful dimensions of the platens are not listed in our data sheet; ask us and we will confirm them before purchase.

What is the advantage of the removable lower platen?

It allows the lower half of the mould to be slid out of the pressing zone to clean it, apply contact paint or touch it up without working under the upper platen. The platen then returns to its position for a new closing. This speeds up the adjustment cycle and improves the fitter's ergonomics and safety.
