The Geminis GE-870 is a heavy-duty centre lathe for long, large-diameter parts: shafts, rollers, cylinders and shell rings. This unit has 4,000 mm between centres, 870 mm swing over bed and 1,100 mm swing in gap.
Key strengths
The manufacturer's data sheet for the GE-870 (a document with no serial number, only the model reference) states a DIN 55022 size 8 spindle nose, 18 speeds and a Morse 6 tailstock. The headstock table on this unit, with L, M and R ranges, lists speeds from 16 to 1,250 rpm.

What parts can the Geminis GE-870 turn?
According to our data sheet, it has 4,000 mm between centres, 870 mm swing over bed, 1,100 mm in the gap and 540 mm over the cross slide. The spindle bore is 85 mm. It can turn long shafts and cylinders, as well as short, large-diameter parts using the gap next to the headstock.
What is the gap and what is it for?
The gap is a recess in the bed next to the chuck that allows parts larger in diameter than the swing over bed to be turned, provided they are short. On this unit the data sheet states 1,100 mm in the gap compared with 870 mm over the bed, which increases the maximum diameter for disc or flange-type parts.
What spindle speeds does it have?
The headstock table, visible in the photos, lists three ranges (L, M and R) with speeds from 16 to 1,250 rpm. The manufacturer's data sheet for the GE-870 refers to 18 speeds. The low ranges are used for large diameters and roughing, and the high range for finishing smaller parts.
